Improving Public Transport

I recently succeeded in having the Number 92 Bus which serves many vulnerable and elderly people in Thornwood reinstated after the bus operator pulled the service which connects the area to shopping districts and local hospitals. The 92 is just the latest in a long line of bus campaigns I have run since I was first elected in 1999 and I also hold my own unique bus surgeries giving local people the opportunity to question their elected representatives along with representatives of SPT and the bus operators on services in their local areas.

In Parliament, I have led the call for a modernised form of bus regulation which would reintroduce public consultation on service changes and establish public service routes which operators would have to provide in order to win the right to operate the more profitable services.

St Enoch Underground Station, City Centre

"St Enoch, Buchanan Street, Cowcaddens, Hillhead, Kelvinhall and Partick Subway Stations are all in Glasgow Kelvin"

However, public transport isn’t just about bus services and that’s why I support the Glasgow Airport Rail Link and Glasgow Cross-Rail, which I believe are essential to the economic development of the city.  With no less than six of the fourteen Glasgow Underground stations located in Glasgow Kelvin, I have also been at the forefront of the campaign to extend, improve and modernise the Glasgow Subway, starting with increased opening hours and a joined up ticketing system.

Housing for all

Probably the major challenge facing Glasgow Kelvin is in the area of housing.  Unlike other parts of the city, the central and west area faces an acute shortage of affordable homes to both rent and buy.

A Greener Glasgow

I have campaigned relentlessly for the roll out of recycling provision to all parts of Glasgow Kelvin, regardless of whether the housing is detached and semi-detached, tenemental or in high flats.
